I have shown this photo before this is sorry camp where people go when someone dies to mourn their death. What I have since learnt this is also where sorry business is carried out. Both women and men will hit themselves (sometimes a number of times) generally in the head with a rock or a stick to show how sorry they are!!! This often leads to horrific injuries the women will come to the clinic for help but often the men won't. This is not very common practice anymore thank goodness.
This is Lily who when this photo was taken was at rehearsals for Milpirri. Not long ago Lily was badly beaten with a shovel to the head, resulting in a number of wounds needing suturing. But there was one wound on top of her head that needed stitches but couldn't because of previous sorry business where she had beaten herself in the head during mourning the skin was so thin there was nothing left to stitch together and just had to be left open with a dressing. You will often find these old wounds on these elderly ladies heads and their skin is very fine on their scalp.
